My favorite baseball card of all time
My Favorite Baseball Card of All Time
Wow. I gave it some serious thought over the past few days – “what’s my favorite sports card”. I dug through the old shoe box in the closet – it had been awhile – and smiled as I looked at old cards that I’d forgotten I’d even had. Picked up the 1972 Nolan Ryan – man I love that card – even it was creased once and the corners are a little tattered.
Finally, I zone in on one card that draws me back to the early 1990’s as if it were yesterday – my 1989 Griffey Jr Upper Deck Rookie card. Well, actually I found three in that old shoe box. This card was so sought after in the early 90’s – everybody wanted it – few had it. There were other must have cards back then – the Frank Thomas Leaf Rookie comes to mind as another – but the Griffey Jr was the card I wanted.
Flash forward 14 years to 2004. There I was dreaming again about that card I had always wanted – except now I’ve got three sons sitting around me. Of course all three are crazy about all sports cards and they really get interested when I start talking to them about my must have card. Well, to make a long story short, that day I decided to buy a box of 1989 Upper Deck wax packs (I don’t remember if they were series 1 or 2?). Anyway I bought the box from an online card dealer and it arrived in a few days.
We (my kids and me) found three Griffey Jr rookies in that box.
What a great memory.
