Packing Material Essentials You Should Never Be Without
There’s no doubt about moving–it’s stressful. The best thing you can do is plan ahead and don’t cut corners with your packing material. If you know you’re going to move, start packing the things you don’t use. For example, if you know that you’re not going to use your winter clothes before you move, you’ll save a lot of stress by having them packed before the time comes.
Make a list of what you’ll need, and try to get a general idea how much you’ll use of each. Here are the staples that will let you pull off a move with no hitches.
1. Sturdy boxes – The number one cause of a miserable move is the wrong box. We’ve all been there when a friend haphazardly packed, and the next thing you know…CRASH! All the contents just fell out of the bottom.
Don’t pack a huge box full of heavy objects. Your possessions will reach their destination much easier with a several smaller boxes. Look into purchasing professional moving boxes. These boxes come with a seal on the bottom that indicates the weight limit of each box. Problem solved.
2. Heavy-duty packing tape – This means NO masking tape. This works great on boxes but also helps pack those things that don’t fit in boxes. Try taping your broom handles together to avoid dropping or tripping in transit.
3. Bubble wrap – This is a “must have” for protecting glass and fragile items. If you can find them, perforated bubble wrap sheets make life easier.
4. Tape dispenser – Trust me, you’ll be happy you got one. In the grand scheme of things, the ten bucks you spend is more than worth it–and not just what you’ll save when your tape stops sticking together.
5. Packing paper – You can get a ton of this to help fill in those voids and protect your most precious belongings. When it doesn’t warrant bubble wrap but would still do better with some protection, this is the packing material you want to use.
