Lego Star Wars Review Set 7753 Pirate Tank

The Lego Star Wars Set 7753, Pirate Tank, is part of the Clone Wars series of sets released in 2009. The set is a vehicle featured in the Clone Wars TV series episode Dooku Captured where a gang of pirates lead by Hondo Ohnaka captured Count Dooku and took him to their hideout on the planet Florrum.

The Pirate Tank Lego set is a Special Edition, which means it is only available online at Lego Shop At Home and select speciality stores. It comes with 372 pieces, 3 minifigures and retails for $39.99. The minifigures include Obi-Wan Kenobi in the same gear as in the Republic Attack Gunship (7676) and the new figures of pirates Hondo Ohnaka and Turk Falso who both have detailed printing on the rear of their head pieces. It is a good cross section of figures and a relatively cheap way to purchase Obi Wan in Clone Wars gear and two exclusive and highly detailed figures.

The tank vehicle Tank measures 9′? inches (24.1cm) long and 6 inches (15.2cm) wide. It has wheels underneath to move it along the ground. The canon swivels easily and a minifigure can be placed in the canon chair, while flick fire missiles sit in the front and back of the vehicle. There is also a mechanism that pops open an area in the top of the tank to house either a driver or a prisoner.

It is a good looking set, quite an unusual design for a tank with a long thin shape instead of the regular short and wide design, and the tank could double as a flying space ship if you are not worried about breaking Star Wars canon.  The set contains stickers which is a shame because the pieces and colors are quite nice and would have been impressive pieces without stickers.

Lego Star Wars Review Set 8037 Anakin's Y-Wing Starfighter

The Star Wars Lego Set 8039, Anakin’s Y-Wing Starfighter is a model of the vehicle featured in the Clone Wars television series, episode Shadow of Malevolence where Anakin leads the Y Wings in a daring raid on General Greivous’ ship Malevolence. The Y-Wings were also featured in the original trilogy movies, acting as bombing ships in the Battle Of Endor.

The Lego set is representative of the Clone wars period as it comes with minifigures of Anakin Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano and astromech droid R2-D2. The set comes with 570 pieces and the vehicle measures 17 inches (43.2cm) long by 7 inches (17.8cm) wide, making it quite a large vehicle. All the minifigures can be placed inside the vehicle, Anakin in the cockpit, Ahsoka in a central gunning turret and R2-D2 in the back.  It is heavier and larger than would first appear in the pictures and is sturdy enough for fast paced play.

There are a number of playable features on the ship. The turret guns move up and down but do not rotate, the cockpit opens as does a storage area in the back and by pressing a button in R2-D2’s alcove missiles fire out from the front of the ship (there are no flick fire missiles on this model). There are only two stickers in the set which is a boon for Lego fans and the price per piece count is quite reasonable compared to other sets released in this wave.

It is surprisingly large and sturdier than the previous Y-Wing releases (7150 and 7658) due to the fact that it has solid, filled-in engine boosters rather than the hollow design featured in earlier models.  It is a highly recommended set for ardent fans and younger builders will enjoy its high swooshability factor.

o Sleeves –
Clear semi-rigid holders are the best.  The documents can be handled and stored without them being bent, rolled up or “dinged,” yet they are easy to inspect and admire.  Since most certificates were folded at one time, semi-rigid sleeves have the added benefit of tending to flatten and smooth out any fold remnants.  Sleeves should also be non-reactive chemically.

o Gloves –
If you want to handle certificates outside of a sleeve (as when inspecting with a magnifier), put on a pair of non-powdered, non-latex exam gloves.  Powdered versions leave a powder residue and latex causes an allergic reaction in some people.  Exam gloves are very inexpensive and will keep skin oil, finger prints and other chemicals off of the paper and printing.

o Intermingling –
Certificates vary in the chemical makeup of the paper and inks used, as well as the elements that have been deposited on them over time.  To prevent these various materials from interacting with each other, certificates should always be kept one certificate to one sleeve.  Besides, you normally want to be able to see both sides.  Many certificates have writing, signatures, transfer records or stamps on the reverse.
